The IKV T'Mar
Tacoma, WA Independent Klingon Vessel

Statement of Purpose:

T'MAR: A Community Service/Klingon Fan Club open to those (21 or older) who live in the Seattle, Tacoma, Olympia, Gig Harbor areas. We are a group of Science Fiction fans dedicated to establishing a positive presence in our community through volunteer service and fund raising activities. We make ourselves available to provide assistance at charity events and fundraisers, and visit hospitals, schools, movie premieres and book stores - anywhere we can help.

In character and costume, you may have seen us answering phones at KBTC Public Television pledge drives, or at the Boeing Air and Space Museum, Karpeles Manuscript Museum, and the Pacific Science Center interacting as part of OMSI's Star Trek: Federation Science and KCPQ 13 Engineering Interactive Exhibit. Some of our other involvements at the PSC included the KOMO Kids Fun Fair, the Torch Light Parade, and the Festival of Fountains. We were on hand for the opening of Endeavor Elementary School and have been recognized in the local papers for our achievements. We have helped the Muscular Dystrophy Association by participating in the Jerry Lewis Labor Day Telethon and the MDA Kid's Summer Camp on VIP Day. We've assisted and walked in the Multiple Sclerosis Walk-a-Thon. We are part of the attraction at an annual Halloween Food Drive in Olympia, WA, and we encourage a safe Halloween for kids by handing out candy at SeaTac Mall. We engaged in mortal Laser Tag combat against the public; proceeds went to the Tacoma Breast Cancer Awareness Center.

Out of costume (but always a bunch of characters), we visit a retirement home where we clean-up the grounds and entertain the residents by singing songs, new and old. We've volunteered as servers on Thanksgiving to allow the retirement home wait staff to have the day with their families.

Just for fun, we create Science Fiction costumes and props, and attend Science Fiction Conventions all over the Northwest. We've been the Rustycon Fan Guests of Honor, run casinos and game shows at Radcon, Rustycon, Norwescon, Anglicon, and CascadiaCon. We won First Place and Best Actor in a Fan Film at the Radcon Fan Film Festival one year.

We host and attend themed costume parties throughout the year.

The motto of the T'Mar is: Honor before Glory; Duty before Honor.

For more information on joining T'Mar, our up-coming activities, or enlisting our help for a community project or fund raiser, please don't hesitate to contact us via our XO, Cdr ChonBey, at 253-318-2473 after 7pm PST or on the weekends. This is his business, Polymorph Digital Photography, leave a message if you get the voicemail. Meetings are held monthly on the 2nd Saturday of each month at varying locations, except where it conflicts with a convention or other event.

Sometimes we do our meeting at Odyssey 1 and play laser tag afterwards in costume.

Take a look on the "Happenings" page for past events, some for charity or community service, some just for fun.
